Recorded at Bharat Nivas, Auroville - November 2008

In sanskrit Shantakaram means "abode of peace". This ancient Vedic text is an invocation to Vishnu who represents the omnipresent consciousness supporting the universe.

NADAKA was born in Quebec. At 16, his quest for life's deeper sense led him on a pilgrimage along a wondrous road that brought him to India, which he naturally adopted as his country. Inspired by the ideals of India's great revolutionary yogi, Sri Aurobindo, he has been living in the international settlement of Auroville, in South India, since 1974. His love of Indian culture and passion for Indian music led him to study a number of traditional music styles, both on Indian stringed instruments and vocally.

GOPIKA was born in Bombay, and grew up in an environment of music and art listening to many of India's great musicians performing at her own family residence. She began singing lessons at the age of seven. Later graduating in Applied Arts, she is also a painter and photographer. Progressively discovering a new spiritual dimension within, she turned to the study of ancient Sanskrit chants and mantras, which she teaches in Auroville and at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry.
